New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Campus Recreation & Intramural Sports Manager reporting to the Associate Director of Athletics.

 

The post-holder will have an integral role in developing the vision for recreational and intramural activities on campus that is consistent with the department, division and institutional vision and missions.

 

The primary responsibility of the incumbent will be to ensure adequate planning, budgeting, implementation, oversight, monitoring, evaluation and analysis of all recreational and intramural activities. Activities include weekly scheduled pursuits such as futsal, basketball alongside the more infrequently scheduled activities such as dodgeball, indoor cricket and bubble soccer. This role will require managing the climbing wall and its various programs as well as scheduling group classes for the NYUAD community. Off campus activities such as rowing, kayaking, beach volleyball and football are also recreational activities organized by the incumbent.

 

To aid the successful and safe delivery of activities, the post-holder is required to oversee all aspects of risk management and activity safety ensuring that relevant procedures, policies and guidance is completed, regularly updated and maintained and shared with key stakeholders which may include departmental colleagues, activity participants, event organizers and student leads.

 

The Campus Recreation & Intramural Sports Manager will be required to collaborate with departmental colleagues to ensure that activities are well advertised, participated in and synchronized with other departmental and divisional processes, activities and functions. The post-holder is also expected to have a good understanding of multiple sports and physical activities rules, activity organization and requirements ensuring that current trends and best practices amongst higher education campus recreation programs are understood and aligned.

 

The post holder will be expected to teach at least one Physical and Health Education course per semester.

 

The position will require evening and weekend commitments during the academic year.

 

The duties of this role may at times involve being exposed to data that may be sensitive in nature and require confidentiality.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Management; responsible for the management and the successful delivery of various recreational and intramural programs for the student body and NYUAD community weekly, semesterly and yearly
  • Administrative duties; include but not limited to scheduling, activity budgeting, stakeholder engagement and communication, risk management completion, coordination of student employment opportunities, use of the departments booking and reservation system and other key software functionality, organizing travel logistics, supporting training development and delivery and providing general administrative support that ensures efficient operations, maintains records and materials accurately according to relevant policies and processes
  • Supervision; hiring, supervision, mentoring and guiding relevant staff, student assistants, recreation/intramural league coordinators and officials
  • Data tracking, analysis and reporting; using new and existing data sources, conduct data analysis in order to create comprehensive reports and presentations demonstrating the areas significant impact which can also be used to guide future work, generate opportunity for future collaborations and can be shared with stakeholders. The post holder will also support the collation of student and community feedback
  • Instruction; at least one Physical and Health Education Class per semester
  • Contribute to the University and Student Affairs Division-wide programs, including admissions events, new student orientation, student leadership training, athletic instructor and coaching programs, and more

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • An undergraduate degree 
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications or the ability to secure certifications before start of work

Preferred Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in a sports related field (sports administration, sports management, recreation management, sports studies).
  • Coaching and/or teaching certifications

Required Experience:

  • At least three years of experience managing or coordinating sports programs
  • Strong commitment to excellence
  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a high level of administrative and organizational competence
  • Possess excellent decision-making skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in meeting multiple deadlines
  • Ability to lead and work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
  • Knowledge and use of Google Drive and Microsoft suite applications

Preferred Experience: 

  • At least three years experience working in an athletic department within higher education responsible for recreational and/or intramural programming
  • Coaching and/or teaching experience
  • A passion for sports
  • Ability to create recreational programs that are inclusive, innovative and increase well-being for students and community
