Director of Development, Major Gifts - Institutional Advancement

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Director of Development, Major Gift reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement.

The primary responsibility of the Director of Development is to raise major contributions from high net worth individuals (alumni and friends of the University), Corporations, Trusts and Foundations.  In preparation for a major university wide comprehensive campaign, the Director will focus on raising philanthropic and sponsorship support to fuel NYUAD’s campaign.  In this role, the Director will identify, cultivate and steward key major gift /principal gift relationships.  Superb communication skills are required to translate the NYUAD narrative and comprehensive needs into compelling and attractive propositions for investment.  The role will require close working relationships with key internal stakeholders across the entire University (NYUAD and NYU), especially Faculty who are key partners in fundraising success.

Key performance indicators will include rigorous moves management goals across all phases of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.  Metrics will also include targets based on size and status of portfolio.  The Development Director’s prospect portfolio will reflect a variety of sectors and regions with priority given to local and regional prospects.  Occasional international relationship management may be required.  The Director will ensure that prospects, donors and key internal stakeholders are continuously engaged in the NYUAD community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify, prioritize and consistently move a portfolio of approximately 125-150 prospects by understanding and successfully translating the comprehensive NYUAD offer to potential donors/sponsors
• Partner with University leadership (Faculty, Administration) to deliver key relationships for the University, continuously strengthening the reputation of Institutional Advancement and inspiring internal partners to support successful fundraising
• Maintain excellent and thorough call reports; proactively updating multiple databases ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times
• Negotiate with donors/sponsors on agreements ensuring they are compliant with NYU, NYUAD and UAE policies and procedures
• Represent Associate Vice Chancellor and Institutional Advancement when called upon
• Attend work events in evenings, and weekends when needed
• Perform other duties from time to time as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience:

• 10+ years of related experience
• Experience in complex environments
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
• Experience with relational databases
• Strategic, creative thinker with excellent prioritization and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Ability to effectively work with different audiences such as Academic leaders, external VIPs, Government Officials, Administrative leadership
• Excellent writing and presentation skills

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in a higher education environment
• Philanthropic and sponsorship experience in MENA region
• Experience in comprehensive philanthropic campaigns in higher education
