Research Outreach Specialist - Research Outreach & Communication (Fixed-Term for 3 years)

New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to appoint a Research Outreach Specialist reporting to the Senior Vice Provost of Research; Managing Director, Research Institute.

The Research Outreach Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the management of NYUAD's research outreach initiatives and activities. These initiatives align with the Office of Research's departmental goals to promote and enhance communication with the public, and to generate awareness and local support for the university's research programs.

In partnership with the Research Institute, the Research Outreach Specialist will manage and oversee all research engagement programming and initiatives. This role aims to showcase and increase visibility of the research conducted by the Research Institute’s centers by participating in NYUAD-led events and initiatives developed in response to UAE strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities: 

Manage the planning and organization of research outreach workshops and events, including High School Workshops, the Abu Dhabi Science Festival, and Citizen Science initiatives..ete ensuring active involvement of NYUAD students in outreach initiatives by coordinating with departments such as Community Outreach and Student Life

• Work with high school teachers to identify the educational needs and requirements of their students
• Collaborate with NYUAD faculty members to develop educational workshops that address the needs and requirements of high school students
• Partner with NYUAD faculty members to create educational workshops for high school teachers, aimed at enhancing their teaching skills and better preparing students for university-level education

Lead public participation in research initiatives, such as Citizen Researcher, the first public participation platform in NYUAD research

• Provide strategic and operational insight on research public participation projects developed and led by faculty and researchers across 18+ research centers and 4 academic divisions
• Design, deliver, and evaluate research public participation projects on a semesterly basis

Manage and oversee research engagement programming and initiatives for the Research Institute

• Establish a systematic process and pathway for centers, labs, and groups within the Research Institute to work directly with Research Public Engagement.
• Create a streamlined process to support these entities in applying for research engagement opportunities, aiding in the fulfillment of their outreach mandate
• Support Research Centers to create visibility for their research by overseeing and providing strategic and operational insight on the organization of research workshops, conferences, and Citizen Researcher projects

Emphasize the work of research outreach through regular updates on social media. Collaborate with Public Affairs to launch and regularly update a web platform that comprehensively represents and describes research outreach activities and invites further collaboration

Coordinate with relevant centers (e.g., Arts Center, ERB) to develop and create interactive displays that showcase the respective centers' interdisciplinary research.

Other  administrative duties include:

• Draft evaluation reports on outreach events and programs that have been developed and participated in
• Organize research outreach tasks, past and future events, and workshops in a project management system such as ASANA, accessible to team members and project participants
• Define budgetary requirements and track expenses for each Academic Year
• Work on E-pro and coordinate with relevant NYUAD financial departments to process payments for vendors the outreach team has worked with

Required Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in a related area (e.g. experience in areas of communication, marketing or public relations in a diverse, multinational organization)

Required Experience: 

• 3+ years of related/applicable work experience in area of communication, marketing or public relations
