HPC Application Specialist - Center for Research Computing (Fixed Term for 3 years)

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an HPC Application Specialist reporting to the Senior Director, Center for Research Computing.

The HPC Application Specialist will work as part of a team to provide researchers and faculty with user support, training, day-to-day assistance for the installation and configuration of HPC and data intensive applications and occasionally collaborate with researchers where the candidate’s expertise can contribute to a project’s success.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Support users on a day-to-day basis including installing, compiling and debugging research applications and provide documentation
• Respond and address all user requests, questions and queries received via the ticketing system, email, phone or face-to-face
• Provide user training, develop and maintain training material, and tutorials for the users. Manage the wiki and website
• Contribute to research projects with HPC technical expertise
• Monitor HPC resource utilization and generate utilization reports
• Proactively ensure that users are kept up to date on the system status and any downtime that would impact the users
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of software and HPC resource capabilities including continuing study and attending seminars and conferences

Required Education: 

• Bachelor's Degree in science or engineering

Preferred Education: 

• Master's Degree  in science or engineering
• Computer languages
• Linux & operating systems
• Computer architectures

Required Experience: 

• 3+ years relevant experience
• Programming skills in the “C” or Fortran languages

• Programming skills with scripting languages (e.g., Unix shell, Python, or Perl)

• Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audience
• Presentation and documentation writing skills
• Communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills

Preferred Experience: 

• 3+ years experience with HPC user support, standard scientific software (ex. MATLAB, MATHEMATICA) and HPC resource managers (e.g., Slurm, LSF, PBS, SGE)
• Knowledge in Linux system administration, MPI and/or OpenMP, CUDA programming and applications (e.g., PyTorch, Tensor Flow), version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN, CVS, RCS) and Web content management
