New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Director of National Talent Management reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
The Director of National Talent Management provides visionary leadership to integrate national talent into the academic and professional fabric of NYUAD advancing the recruitment, development, and retention of UAE nationals. The Director drives institutional policy, strategy, and initiatives to align national talent development efforts with the UAE government plan and the university’s strategic goals. Working across all levels of leadership and institutional stakeholders, the Director ensures collaboration and alignment in promoting inclusivity, belonging, and leadership development for UAE nationals, fostering an environment where national talent thrives within the university's diverse and dynamic culture.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Planning:
- Lead the establishment and setting up of the National Talent Management function and processes.
- In partnership with other NYUAD offices and external partners, this role tracks NYUAD’s compliance with various Ministerial Orders such as Ministerial Orders 41, 42 and 43 of 2005 to ensure that NYUAD adheres to local regulations and that supervisors and leaders are educated on new requirements and progress.
- Collaborate with NYUAD leadership, HR staff and external stakeholders to develop a strategic plan describing the timelines, resource plans, associated events and activities and accountability structures.
- Develop and oversee institutional policies and strategies for national talent integration.
- Align talent initiatives with national talent requirements and university-wide objectives.
- Act as a thought leader in talent development, setting benchmarks for national talent innovation and institutional inclusivity.
- Partner with the HR Business Partner (HRBP) office, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development teams to align and streamline national talent initiatives in support of broader institutional objectives.
- Lead and own the development of the HR project communications and engagement strategy ensuring the outputs of the strategies are effectively communicated in a consistent manner, optimizing the impact for HR and externally to the rest of our relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with NYUAD leadership, HR staff, and external stakeholders to develop a strategic plan that embeds inclusion, belonging, and leadership development into national talent initiatives.
Cross departmental Leadership:
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to align talent acquisition, development and development strategies across academic and operational units, promoting inclusivity and a sense of belonging in all efforts.
- Work closely with NYUAD senior leaders to embed national talent priorities into broader institutional plans.
Talent Acquisition and Recruitment:
- Drive strategic recruitment campaigns and partnerships that position the NYUAD as an employer of choice for UAE nationals.
- Maintain a pipeline of high-caliber candidates by leveraging national networks.
- Meet regularly with counterparts from Recruitment, the HR Business Partner team and the business to discuss the new joiners pipeline and the onboarding status, resolve any risks and issues or escalate as appropriate, while monitoring adherence to SLAs and driving process improvement.
- Drive recruitment campaigns and partnerships that position NYUAD as an employer of choice for UAE nationals, ensuring that strategies promote inclusivity, retention, and leadership pathways for Emiratis.
Professional Development Programs:
- Responsible for the delivery of tailored Emirati development programs including project management, stakeholder engagement and execution of successful outcomes
- Integrate professional development strategies into succession planning for key institutional roles.
- Manage Najah fund for masters and degree programs for UAE nationals
- Identify external opportunities leveraging resources for Emirati development in leadership roles
- Focus on retention of talent as a primary objective of planning activities.
- In collaboration with the L&OD team, develop and implement tailored Emirati leadership development programs to prepare UAE nationals for senior roles within the institution, ensuring alignment with NYUAD’s goals for diversity, equity, and belonging.
External representation and community engagement :
- Represent NYUAD at national and international forums, advocating for talent initiatives, emphasizing the university’s commitment to inclusion, belonging, and leadership development for Emiratis.
- Build and maintain high-level partnerships with government, industry, and academic institutions to support talent strategy.
- Facilitate meaningful connections between national talent and the broader NYUAD community through events, workshops, and collaborative projects
- Manages NAFIS, ADGM, Fifth Element recruiting relationship to ensure alignment with latest directives and leveraging relationship opportunities.
- Create partnership leads with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) to ensure NYUAD is kept abreast with all ministry compliance requirements; e.g. Wage Protection System (WPS) compliance, TAWTEEN percentage, etc.).
- Identify, map and develop opportunities including and not limited to, NEP program, Crown Prince Court, Scholarships including Harvard Kennedy School and ensure internal awareness and visibility alongside talent planning.
- Partner with Office of Inclusion and Equity and affinity group Egrobu to leverage community feedback and create solutions to integrate belonging and engagement.
- Develop outreach programs with schools, SMSP and the internal NYUAD student affairs team to develop talent pipeline opportunities.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Establish performance metrics to measure the success of initiatives, presenting outcomes to executive leadership and governance boards.
- Partner with the Talent Acquisition and HR Business Partner teams to track the measures, status, and progress of NYUAD’s national talent strategy to monitor progress toward and attainment of assigned activities.
- Manage the allocated budget, ensuring the financial sustainability of programs
- Introduce and follow through system enhancements (e.g. PeopleSync, immigration information system(s), etc.) to track and support any ministerial requirements, and national talent initiatives.
