Clinical Psychologist - Counseling (Fixed-Term for 3 years)

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Clinical Psychologist reporting to the Director of Mental Health. 

The Clinical Psychologist will provide clinical assessment, psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention and management to the NYU Abu Dhabi student community in accordance with established standards and ethics.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Provides outstanding clinical services, case management and referrals, collaborates with other clinical providers and consults with the Director of Mental Health on mental health issues. Maintains case records, notes, and closing summaries on all clients treated
• Conducts clinical assessment interviews to evaluate the seriousness of problems and concerns including, but not limited to, alcohol and other drug use and assessment of eating disorders. The Clinical Psychologist recommends treatment plans and provides students with individual psychotherapy or group therapy as appropriate. The Clinical Psychologist, under the direct supervision of the Director of Mental Health, makes recommendations for hospitalization and leaves of absence and, at the request of the Dean of Students, participates in the evaluation of students’ readiness to return from leaves of absence
• Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment and support teams, and collaborates with student health professionals at the Student Health Center and Wellness Exchange at NYU in New York. The Psychologist maintains case records, notes and closing summaries on clients treated
• Serves in an on-call capacity to respond to student and campus emergencies, and serves as a key resource and source of advice for colleagues involved in responding to psychological emergencies and other urgent situations

• As the Counseling Center grows, the Psychologist  may be asked to supervise student psychologists, and to monitor their case records and oversee therapy sessions

• Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director

Required Education: 

• Ability to obtain Psychologist license in Abu Dhabi - requirements below:
• Bachelor degree in the field of psychology And Postgraduate Doctoral degree (example: Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., D.Clin.Psy) from an approved psychology faculty or an educational faculty with focus on psychology.  Plus a minimum of two (2) years’ experience post qualification in related field
• OR Bachelor degree in the field of psychology And Postgraduate full time Master’s degree (includes MSc, MA, M.Phil) of minimum two (2) years course duration from a psychology faculty or an educational faculty with focus on psychology provided that the bachelor degree is minimum four (4) years duration.  Plus a minimum of two (2) years’ experience post qualification in related field
• CPR certification

Required Experience: 

• 3+ years of post-master’s clinical experience in an ambulatory care setting required. Demonstrated proficiency with electronic medical records
• Ability to work with a diverse, international population
• Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Self-motivated and confident team player with attention to detail
• Knowledge of cultural issues specific to the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East strongly preferred
• Ability to understand the wider perspective of the institution and how the Health and Wellness Center supports and fits into the broader educational mission
• Ability to understand and appreciate intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological development of undergraduate students in a diverse international community committed to intellectual rigor and ethical values
• Ability to think creatively and critically about programs, services, and resources in order to provide the best possible environment to support students

• Ability to adapt to new work situations, people, ideas, procedures, and organizational structures in order to accommodate an evolving work environment

• Exhibits maturity, reliability, composure, and stability under pressure in order to handle on-the-job challenges

• Excellent mediation, and consultative skills and is able to work with students, faculty and staff from many backgrounds

• Ability to build successful relationships with faculty, students, parents and co-workers
• Ability to be on call on a 24 hour basis
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
