New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Program Manager, Student Research, reporting to the Head of NYUAD Visiting Student Programs and Student Research.

 

The Program Manager for Student Research Programs plays a key role in supporting student research initiatives within the Office of Undergraduate Education. This role supports the fostering of a dynamic and enriching research environment for students, aligning with the institution’s academic and research objectives.

 

The individual will provide administrative support for research opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and visiting students who are pursuing research, scholarship, and creative work. The Program Manager will provide administrative support for the new Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research Programme, which includes advertising, student recruitment, event delivery, budget management, activity evaluations, supporting the leadership in action and leadership training components, providing support to Laidlaw Scholars and liaising with the Laidlaw Foundation and other partners.

 

The role requires collaboration with students, faculty, and administrators to provide a seamless, supportive experience for NYUAD students. The Program Manager also actively participates in the NYUAD Summer Working Group, responsible for coordinating the administration of all NYUAD-funded summer opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of student research and Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research Programme, including summer research, conference grants, post-graduation practical training program, research assistantships, research fellowship program, research internships, leadership in action internships, leadership training and undergraduate research programs for visiting students. This involves updating and maintaining information management systems, processing applications, issuing award letters as appropriate, arranging logistics for programs, and processing financial paperwork
  • Manage communications for student research and Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research Programme (website, intranet pages, e-newsletter, social media, presentations, reports) and develop supporting materials for programs
  • Advise potential student researchers, engage faculty in collaborative and supportive efforts related to academic research, and implement programs, services, and online resources to facilitate and enhance student research opportunities on and off campus. Maintain inventories of student research opportunities, and actively seek out and promote additional student research positions within NYUAD and externally
  • Support other newly developed programs as required, and maintain records and budgets within programs
  • Provide support for other programs within the Office of Undergraduate Education and/or the Visiting Students Program
  • Assist in the administration of events or workshops
  • Respond to queries from students, faculty, and staff
  • Assist with enhancing administrative systems and dashboards to enhance productivity, and coordinate with supervisor for any issues that may arise

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelors Degree

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years Experience in a university setting, working with faculty, researchers, and students
  • Experience in working on student-oriented programs within a university
  • Experience working on funding programs
  • Experience in a setting requiring confidentiality and a high level of professional conduct
  • Proven track record of successfully managing concurrent duties and assignments
  • Ability to function effectively in an area where policies and processes may require further development
  • Experience in maintaining and editing web-based information systems
  • Experience in using social media to promote initiatives and achievements
  • Expertise with the suite of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks and work proactively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to relate professionally to people at all levels, including faculty, staff, and students
  • Should take initiative, be proactive, flexible, and have a can-do attitude
  • Will need to be able to work under pressure and deadlines
  • Must work well within a team environment

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years Experience in a university research office
  • Experience in organizing a range of events, preferably in a university setting
  • Experience in tracking budgets
