New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Director, Academic Recruitment reporting to the Executive Director of Office of Academic Appointments.

 

The Assistant Director of Academic Recruitment in the Office of Academic Appointments is an experienced recruitment professional who oversees the hiring of faculty and academic staff at NYUAD across the academic divisions, Library, SMSP/SA, and academic hiring units. In supervising the Office’s recruitment specialists and administrative assistants, the Assistant Director will drive all administrative components involved in faculty recruitment so that the best faculty from around the world join NYUAD, and will: problem-solve during the search process (removing obstacles that impact recruitment projects as they arise), identify opportunities to streamline recruitment, conduct research on trends and best practices in advertising so that NYUAD remains competitive on the job market, and connect diverse needs with realistic solutions through partnerships and collaborations across various NYUAD offices (including university leadership) and external vendors. Any roadblocks and gaps in the hiring process are communicated to the Director in a timely manner. In collaboration with the IDBE office, they will design and conduct workshops for the NYUAD faculty on best practices in faculty recruitment, and will occasionally attend search committee and faculty meetings as a primary spokesperson for the Academic Appointments team.  In addition to monitoring the search committee processes, this position is expected to provide data-driven reports on best practices, and to suggest to the Director innovative administrative functions in alignment with NYUAD policy and UAE government regulations. Overall, the Assistant Director will proactively provide experience and guidance to the Academic Appointments team and Director, and from time to time provide managerial support as needed (including attending faculty orientations and events).

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all steps of the full faculty recruitment cycle and manage two or more recruitment specialists, supporting the search committee chairs and NYUAD deans/leadership
  • Ensure job descriptions and postings are consistent and posted appropriately, ensuring all documentation is complete and candidates are screened for appropriate qualifications, facilitating review of candidates by committees and deans, overseeing the closing process including ensuring security clearance process has been initiated and that offers are rendered as agreed. Schedule and attend committee meetings
  • Act as liaison between NYUNY and NYUAD to ensure clear and consistent communication
  • Project management of the marketing needs of Academic Appointments, including but not limited to: overseeing posting and quality control of job postings and descriptions on job boards and social media, managing procurement processes that develop vendor relationships, leading the revamping of recruitment publications and other branded materials as needed
  • Lead the development of initiatives to support talent attraction
  • Develop and implement processes that support sustainable and best-practice talent acquisition.
  • Interact with the general public as NYU liaison and with University personnel including those at the senior level to resolve issues and problems
  • Conduct research on best practices in recruitment, across NYU and externally, so that NYUAD can improve current operations and compete in the global job market across all academic areas, specifically for faculty positions and researchers
  • Using data-driven analyses of recruitment wins and losses, design and lead strategic initiatives that attract superior candidates
  • Prioritize office activities and complete special administrative tasks and projects as needed, which will include: attending all faculty orientations and faculty dinners/events including January Term events as a primary spokesperson for the Academic Appointments office

  • Conduct research in this area and provide reports to the Provost Office

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:

  • More than 7 years of experience supervising faculty recruitment at a college or university

Required Experience:

  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills, planning & organizing, conflict management, exceptional communication skills, knowledge of project management and business analysis techniques & tools
  • Strong knowledge of data development processes including integration design and data modeling
  • Proven ability to perform data analysis and synthesis
  • Excellent documentation capabilities (effective note taking, detailed requirements documents, articulate process flows, meaningful presentations, etc.)
  • Ability to manage and communicate with, a diverse set of stakeholders in both technical and non-technical environments
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through
  • Effectively multitask, as well as manage, lead, and delegate tasks and authority where needed
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information, materials, and staff/student sensitive data
  • Strong leadership capability, executing as appropriate in the areas of responsibility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others
  • Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
  • A demonstrated ability to Influence, provide strategic insight, communicate, lead others
  • Knowledge of a variety of current and emerging technologies related to NYU’s global needs

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous work experience in the UAE
  • Proficiency in Arabic
