New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Assistant Director for Residential Education reporting to the Head of Residential Life, Assistant Dean of Students.
The Assistant Director for Residential Education serves on the department leadership team and is responsible for the development and implementation of a residential curriculum, supervision of four professional staff, and assessment of department initiatives. Additional areas of focus will be to provide leadership to professional staff, developing professional staff trainings, and participation in an on-call rotation. The successful candidate will have experience working with diverse students and understand the value that living on campus contributes to the success of college students. This individual will have a demonstrated ability to create detail oriented policies, procedures while maintaining a campus wide perspective. The assistant director works closely with the head of residential life to fulfill the goals of the department and the pillars of the residential curriculum. This role will include on-call responsibilities, additionally it requires weeknight and weekend commitments on a regular basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and supervision to four Residential College Directors (RCDs) in all areas of responsibility. Lead the strategic direction, goal-setting, and performance management of four Residential College Directors. Facilitate regular one-on-one and team meetings focused on student development theory, community engagement, student support, and staff wellbeing. Guide RCDs in programmatic planning, student advising, and residential conduct management, ensuring alignment with institutional values. Cultivate a culture of accountability, collaboration, and inclusive excellence across the residential education team
Continually evaluate, refine, and implement a comprehensive residential education curriculum and programming model for four residence halls. Use data-informed practices to assess learning outcomes, student engagement, and retention related to residential programs. Integrate institutional learning goals and student development frameworks into co-curricular programming. Partner with campus stakeholders (e.g., wellbeing, career development center, etc.) to deliver high-impact educational experience. Lead initiatives that foster belonging, identity development, conflict resolution, and academic support within residence halls
Effectively analyze and determine operating budgets for all four residence halls that support residential education programming. Develop, monitor, and reconcile hall budgets in collaboration with Residential Life Manager and Assistant Dean of Students, Head of Residential Life. Prioritize resource allocation aligned with strategic goals and community needs. Ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency through monthly tracking and annual planning cycles. Train and support RCDs in managing Residential College programming budgets and organize training for procurement processes
Responsible for the selection and training of the paraprofessional staff and training of the Residential College Directors, in close cooperation with the supervisor and other professional staff. Oversee the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of student staff, including Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants. Design and implement robust training and ongoing professional development that enhances community building, conflict mediation, and crisis response. Lead or co-facilitate professional development sessions for RCDs that promote continuous learning, leadership skills, and staff supervision best practices. Incorporate assessment tools to measure training effectiveness and inform revisions
When serving on an on-call duty rotation follow Student Affairs and University policies and procedures to respond to crisis and emergencies. Provide 24/7 crisis intervention and consultation as part of a rotating professional staff duty team. Respond to incidents involving mental health, facilities emergencies, student conduct, and other matters. Document and communicate effectively with campus partners and senior leadership.Support students and staff through post-crisis follow-up and care coordination
Serve as a hearing officer for our conduct process. Serve as a hearing officer for mid-level student conduct cases, ensuring fair and educational outcomes in alignment with institutional policies. Develop and implement a standardized residential conduct process, including sanction guidelines and restorative practices tailored to residential communities. Train Residential College Directors and paraprofessional staff on residential conduct sanctions, documentation standards, and student rights. Collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards to ensure alignment between residential and institutional conduct frameworks. Utilize conduct trends and data to inform proactive educational programming and policy development within the residential education model
