New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Manager, Lighting, reporting too the Lighting Supervisor.

 

The position will require someone with expert knowledge of lighting equipment and systems, who is resourceful, adept at problem solving, and able to collaborate with Production and Programming staff in delivering technical support for all Arts Center productions, working as a skilled technician in all aspects of technical theater to achieve successful production results for a variety of events, including dance, theater, and music productions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To deputize for the lighting manager when required. Including, and not limited to:
    • Advancing productions whilst keeping within budget and schedule
    • Supervising in house and visiting technicians in daily operations and project work
    • Attend Scheduling and Production meetings as required
    • Operate lighting, sound, video and stage equipment, as and when required, and to rig, de-rig, focus, program and maintain lighting equipment, as well as sound, video and stage equipment
    • To undertake lighting design
  • To ensure all technical areas and working environments are kept tidy and orderly, ensuring they comply with current licensing, fire and health and safety requirements & apply equal standards of professionalism and excellence to all productions in The Arts Centre, from student productions to world-class international productions
  • To supervise Art Centre staff or contracted crews for facility changeovers as needed
  • To act, when required, as a Duty Technician and Arts Centre representative in supervising external staff using the venues by visiting companies, rental clients, third party vendors, and ensure all NYUAD Health and Safety policies are adhered to
  • To adhere to all Health and Safety procedures in order to minimize the risk of injury and accidents
  • Maintain and safeguard the lighting equipment of the Arts Centre, as well as other technical assets, by implementing regular and annual preventative maintenance strategies. Perform or arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment as needed
  • Be available for technical assistance in case of emergencies as necessary

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience with large scale lighting systems, operations and maintenance, preferably within a range of disciplines: dance, theater, and music
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable working independently with limited guidance
  • Capable of managing teams; ensuring deadlines are being met
  • Knowledge of in-person event production, including but not limited to: build-out operations, staffing and labor, talent management, design and preparation
  • Experience in maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of conventional and moving lighting, networks and other lighting system equipment
  • Ability to read, draw, and interpret site diagrams, location maps, plots etc.
  • Capable of working at elevated heights, 90’ and over. Able to lift over 50 pounds
  • Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and multi-tasking skills

  • Masters Degree
