New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Career and Graduate Advisor reporting to the Associate Director, Career and Graduate School Advising.

 

The Career and Graduate Advisor is an integral part of the advising team in the Career Development Center (CDC)within Student Affairs at NYU Abu Dhabi. They will serve in a critical student-facing c apacity, supporting current undergraduate and graduate students and alumni from diverse backgrounds in career support and advising.


The Career and Graduate Advisor will oversee the following industries (Careers in Arts, Media and Communication, careers in Social Impact and Sustainability) developing and promoting industry partnerships, collaborate with relevant academic and student stakeholders and develop and update career focused resources.

 

They will provide career advising and support focused on career exploration and planning, networking, internship and job search process, and graduate school preparation in both individual and group settings; design and deliver customized programs on a variety of career-related topics to students and alumni.

Job Responsibilities:

 

Career Advising

  • Oversee the management of two Career Pathways (Careers in Arts, Media and Communication, Careers in Social Impact and Sustainability) through promotion, stakeholder management, regular communication, and curated programming and industry resources
  • Provide one-on-one career advising (average 20 appointments per week) and group coaching, skill development and support for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni interested in graduate programs and/ or careers related to career communities
  • Responsible for weekly drop-in advising sessions
  • Interpret assessments such as MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory, identify values and interest patterns, identify tentative goals and objectives and formulate action plan to meet individual student needs
  • Advise students on relevant graduate school programs, application process and review of application materials
    Leverage data to inform strong advising, including student engagement data and outcome data

Career Education Programming & Workshops

  • Present effective career pathway related workshops and programs including CV writing, portfolio building, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, graduate school preparation, and networking events
  • Design and facilitate skill building workshops, alumni panels or site visits aimed at increasing career exploration of students interested in career pathways
  • Collaborate with the CDC Employer Relations team to facilitate conversations and create meaningful opportunities with local and global employers in respective career pathways
  • Oversee the Arts Proxy Program, a professional development program lead by a student leader that is curated for students interested in the arts and creative industry
  • Collaborate with student government and clubs, faculty, and staff in development of programming, peer to peer learning, marketing and other ad-hoc projects
  • Engage students through interactive workshops utilizing education technology and develop digital resources and articles
  • Identify relevant industry events in the region and promote and make accessible for students
  • In collaboration with the career advising team, design and develop new career development activities with input from students, Student Affairs colleagues, student interest groups, and feedback from employers
  • Develop and implement, individually and as a team member events appropriate to the target audience(s)

Partnerships and Outreach

  • Establish, build, and maintain relationships with academic departments, related student interest groups and faculty program heads, NYUAD Art Gallery and NYUAD Art Center, Sustainability Office and professional student interest groups
  • Partner with local, regional and global employers and NYUAD alumni, to facilitate career pathway programming
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local galleries, museums, and other related events
  • Curate monthly newsletters for students and academic partners with featured programs, events and industry news

Administration and Coordination of Special Projects

  • Contribute to student affairs divisional projects and committees based on the needs and priorities of the division
  • Present at (Marhaba) orientation, admission sessions or other campus wide events

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Masters Degree in a related field

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of work experience in relevant industries (higher education, arts, media, communication, sustainability)
  • Professional experience with mentoring, advising or guiding students in a higher-education setting
  • General knowledge of industry information and career planning resources
  • Experience building and maintaining strategic relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal university partners and external industry professionals
  • Strong capacity to provide individualized and effective guidance on career planning
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability and desire to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to design and facilitate workshops, presentations and group discussion
  • Demonstrated ability to be productive, deliver high quality work, take initiative, use good judgment and solve problems
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite, LinkedIn, Zoom and ability to learn CRM software
  • Some evenings and weekend work will be required

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of career development theories
  • Knowledge of adult developmental issues throughout the lifespan
  • Flexibility with evening and weekend work schedules
  • Arabic Language
