Theatre Technical Specialist - Stage

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Theater Technical Specialist, Stage reporting to the Stage Supervisor.

The position will require someone with expert knowledge of rigging systems and familiar with stage, video, sound and lighting systems who is resourceful, adept at problem solving, and able to collaborate with Production and Programming staff in delivering technical support for all Arts Center productions. They will assemble, operate and maintain lighting equipment as well as stage, sound and video systems and provide support for the use of the venues by visiting companies and third party vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

• Work as a skilled technician in all aspects of technical theater to achieve the successful production results for a variety of events including dance, theater, and music productions
• To rig, program and de-rig stage equipment and assist with sound, video, lighting equipment
• In addition, supervise facility changeovers as needed
  Operate specialist stage and flys equipment, as well as sound, video and lighting equipment as and when required
  Maintain Technical Department’s equipment through the development and implementation of yearly preventative maintenance and inventories
• Perform or arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment as needed
  Represent the venue as and when required to supervise support staff as needed supporting the use of the venues by visiting companies, rental clients, third party vendors, and crew
  Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures in order to minimize the risk of injury and accidents
  Ensure all technical areas and working environments are kept tidy and orderly, ensuring they comply with current licensing, fire and health and safety requirements
  

Required Education

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  
  

Required Experience

• 5+ years of experience with large scale technical systems, operations and maintenance, preferably within a range of disciplines: dance, theater, and music
• Experience in maintenance, basic repair, and troubleshooting of technical equipment is essential
• Ability to read, draw, and interpret site diagrams, location maps, plots etc
• Capable of working at elevated heights, 90’ and over. Able to lift over 50 pounds
• Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
• Fluent spoken English is required

• Working at Height Certificate
• IPAL MEWP trained
• Manual Handling Certificate

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in the Gulf an advantage
• Additional spoken languages are desirable
