    New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Project Manager, Capital Construction reporting to the Executive Director, Facilities & Projects.

     

    The Construction Projects Manager functions as a key member in delivering the projects promptly in line with the approved construction project program. S/he directs all construction projects from inception to completion in NYUAD Campus. S/he responsible for delivering projects on schedule, budget and quality standards. S/he will be creative and passionate about the built environment and possess a good work ethic and positive attitude. The manager demonstrates a strong commitment to green building standards in all projects by adhering to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and Estidama. S/he will be reporting to Executive Director, Facilities and Projects and S/he collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    Coordination and Supervision

    • Plan, direct, coordinate, and lead the implementation of the project to ensure that its goals and objectives are met within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters
    • Provides leadership and technical input for the NYUAD capital program
    • Oversees the evaluation of infrastructure status and need for rehabilitation and/or replacements that are consistent with the building infrastructure, systems and services
    • Manages and oversees consultant/contractor including budgets, invoicing, scope adherence, amendments, overall program delivery ensuring compliance with approved project brief, cost plan, statutory regulation and industry best practice
    • Monitors and controls progress, cost and budget throughout the project and defect liability period in accordance with approved program, cost plan and quality standards
    • Manages client requests, reviews, approvals, schedules and other communications as well as project close-outs
    • Analyzes bids and works with Procurement to select vendors, contractors, and consultants respecting the Supply Code of Conduct
    • Reviews and negotiates contracts and change orders with contractors
    • Oversee the NYUAD master plan, and manages the capital projects program
    • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time
    • Engage key stakeholders such as staff, faculty and operational heads to develop project briefs by engaging Facilities Management, EHS, Public Safety and Security and IT/AV to ensure operability, buildability and maintainability of the project is factored

    Fiscal Responsibilities & Best Management Practices

    • Must have strong client relations skills and the ability to work well and collaborate with an in-house interdisciplinary team including technology, security, facilities, and purchasing
    • Develop and track cost plans to include project design, build, operational, maintenance and lifecycle costs and provide periodic updates to management
    • Must have the ability to work well under pressure
    • Prior supervisor responsibility
    • Strong attention to detail and financials

     

    Resource Management

    • Excellent project planning skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment
    • Establish work schedules and workflow
    • Supervise staff, and monitor and evaluate the performance

     

    Strategy and Communication

    • Chair project meetings and workshops to drive the project program
    • Strong organizational, problem solving, presentation and analytical skills
    • Manage complex projects, priorities and meet deadlines and budgets whilst maintaining quality standards
    • Must be customer focused on understanding and appropriately responding to client’s needs
    • Write annual reports to the funder and other divisions
    • Risk assessment capabilities
    • Ability to establish priorities

    Other

    • Assist with other initiatives as determined by the Executive Director Facilities and Projects

    Qualifications

    Required Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or other related to Construction and Project Management fields

    Preferred Education:

    • Certification: AIA and LEED certification are desirable
    • PMP Qualified or affiliation with CIOB or RICS 

    Required Experience:

    • Minimum Seven years’ relevant experience or equivalent
    • Working knowledge of building codes and standards
    • Understanding of Contracts such as FIDIC, NEC Engineering and Construction
    • Experience in handling multiple tasks and projects concurrently
    • Previous experience with higher education construction and/or renovation projects with financial management responsibility is essential

    Preferred Experience:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • General knowledge of all MS Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Strong presentation and meeting preparation skills
    • Superb written communications
    • Provides technical and engineering support in the area of project planning, design, and construction
