New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Director of Government Relations reporting to the Chief of Staff, Office of the Vice Chancellor.

 

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, Office of the Vice Chancellor and in collaboration and partnership with Chief Counsel, the Director of Government Relations is responsible for liaison activities with local government agencies, institutions and businesses on behalf of the University.  Establishes and manages key contacts to facilitate desirable outcomes for university students, faculty, staff and departments when interaction with local institutions requires further assistance. Follows and ensures compliance with University policy and procedure in the delivery of assigned services. Facilitates and manages relationships and routinely meets with governmental agencies such as labor office, ministries, health authorities, civil defense, police departments, courts, etc. Provides support and processing assistance required by various university departments in connection with local and governmental law enforcement, security permissions, corporate registration/license related requirements, and related institutional documentation and certification. Provides assistance to individuals in the University community as requested and assigned by the Office of the Vice Chancellor, the Chief Administrative Business Officer, and Provost’s Office.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage relationships with government entities, law enforcement and first responder agencies, hospitals and other local institutions and businesses on behalf of the University to facilitate desirable outcomes for university students, faculty, staff and departments when interaction with local institutions requires assistance. Facilitate relationships and routinely meet with governmental agencies such as labor office, ministries, civil defense, police departments, health authorities, courts, and other organizations as required and where the University may require assistance.  Work with Campus Life, Public Safety, NYUAD’s government partners, and others on sensitive issues and exercise confidentiality at all times
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, campus community members and university departments when interaction with outside agencies and institutions require assistance
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in the UAE and local community, policy, practices, regulations, trends and general disposition as it may affect the operations of the University and members of the campus community
  • As directed, provide follow up activities and status reports of transactions submitted to government offices. Assist in facilitating favorable transaction outcomes
  • Provide guidance to university departments as appropriate and necessary to manage successful outcomes with the community external to the University
  • Facilitate legal outcomes on behalf of the University in coordination with the Office of the General Counsel

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degreee

 Required Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in a similar position
  • Community relations, outreach and government liaison experience and proven successes in the United Arab Emirates
  • Knowledge of government procedures in processing Trade License Visas, Labor Applications and other government applications; and UAE Federal Laws
  • Computer literacy with a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Problem solving - the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully

  • Excellent fluency in English & Arabic

  • Strong oral and written communication- speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and is able to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
