New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Director of IT Community-based Global Learning reporting to Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Education and Outreach.


The Assistant Director of Community-based Global Learning will be required to direct relationships with NYU’s contracted travel agency and other external vendors to ensure that fall, J-Term and spring seminars are produced according to faculty expectations and that out-sourced seminar production meets NYU standards for health and safety. They will work closely with departments (particularly Finance, Health and Wellness Center & IT) across NYUAD to improve upon, and build where needed, the operational infrastructure to support regional academic seminars and summer experiential learning programs, as well as direct financial details of regional academic seminars and summer programs, including but not limited to: creating projections to inform funding decisions; reconciling payments to vendors, and creating financial reports for senior leadership. They will be required to oversee and create communication plans and materials for the operations of the programs, and examples of uses for such materials include: the faculty funding process; pre-departure orientations and preparation for faculty, students, and trip supervisors, post-seminar feedback collection.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates promotional content and materials about the programs for use on the public website, brochures, PPT presentations, social media, etc
  • Maintains the intranet and public websites on regional academic seminars and summer programs
  • Oversees activity and travel arrangements, logistics, and visa procurement for the planning and execution of all regional academic seminars
  • Conducts research as needed to source cultural and other content for the seminars
  • Conducts feasibility visits of sites in advance of seminars as needed
  • Oversees the database of visa, travel, and insurance information for regional academic seminar travel
  • Directs relationships with embassies and consulates as needed
  • Directs relationships with organizations and associations abroad as needed
  • Maintains regional academic seminar statistics and produces reports as needed
  • Administers health and safety plans and risk assessments for regional academic seminars and summer programs, including incident response protocols and student, faculty and staff health and wellness preparation
  • Provides first line response for incidents
  • Leads the program orientations for students, faculty and staff
  • Recruits and trains Trip Supervisors and Summer Graders
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations for program improvements based on data from the regional academic seminar evaluations
  • Supervises one full-time coordinator and up to 75 part-time, temporary staff.
  • Cross-trains to support Community-based Learning activities and operations
  • When needed, supports the student mobility team and the home travel program


Required Education:

  • Masters degree in a relevant field required

Required Experience:

  • 2 – 4 years in a comparable position, preferably in international education
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Personal study abroad experience during college years desirable
  • Experience advising college students on academic and co-curricular issues
  • Experience working with a diverse, international student body
  • Experience working with institutions of diverse, multi-national nature desirable
  • Capacity to work collegially and flexibly in a complex organizational structure comprising New York University in New York and New York University in Abu Dhabi
  • Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines, organized work habits, consistent accuracy, and attentiveness to detail
  • Superior data management skills, including the ability to design and implement web-based data collection mechanisms
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Professional maturity and judgment, including discretion and a capacity for resourceful initiative in a team context
  • Must be available to be on call outside of normal work hours and during vacation periods
