New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Administrative Coordinator for the AlMarid Center, within the Arts & Humanities department, reporting to the Principal Investigator


The administrative coordinator will be the primary contact for the AlMawrid Arab Center. They will serve as an information conduit for the Center, and respond to inquiries displaying knowledge of the Centers activities, as well as the universities policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct administrative support of the Center’s director (calendar, drafting correspondence, handling emails, planning travel, etc)
  • Organizing scholarly activities (conferences, colloquia, technical workshops etc.), including booking travel, booking venues, organizing catering, coordinating IT support
  • Financial support: budget tracking, procurement, payment processing
  • Assisting with the management of Student Assistants, including recruitment and task tracking
  • Assisting in testing and managing of the Center’s website, generating content when needed, including coordinating the translation of website text
  • Assisting with backups of files and IT-related Issues
  • Basic research duties: web based searches, content summary, etc


Required Education:

  • Bachelors Degree 

Preferred Education:

  • Concentration in Art History or Business Administration (or related field)

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 year experience in a similar administrative position
  • Fluent English & Arabic, speaking & writing

Preferred Experience:  

  • Professional experience in a educational/cultural institution

"Al-Mawrid: The Arab Center for the Study of Art will advance

interdisciplinary research in the visual art and photography of the Arab world. The Center aims to move research and pedagogy beyond the established canons of Art History by investigating the histories art that are particular to the region from regional perspectives. It does so in collaborative dialogue with the methods and debates of a global Art History and with the widening cultural horizons in both the Humanities and the Social Sciences.
The Center will be a nexus for conversations and partnerships open to scholars and to art practitioners from across the region and from around the world. The archive will include documents, images and publications from the visual arts drawn from the collections of artists, cultural actors, and institutions. In addition to the existing archive of vernacular and documentary photography from the region.The Center will also pioneer a regional oral history of the arts in the form of audio and video interviews with artists and art professionals. The Center supports research fellowships, a program of conferences, colloquia and workshops, and book publications."
