New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Student Engagement and Leadership Coordinator reporting directly to the Manager, Student Activities, Leadership and First Year Experience.


This position supports all areas of Student Engagement and Leadership but focuses primarily on advising students, student groups and SIGs on planning and managing events, leadership development and providing logistical support on the leadership program.


Reporting to the Student Engagement and Leadership Manager, the Coordinator will support a variety of activities and initiatives, including but not limited to: advising students and SIGs as they conceptualize, plan and deliver events and student conferences; working closely with students to ensure successful “Late Night Programming” during peak times of the academic year; supporting the creation and delivery of the leadership program; managing some program delivery and logistics; assisting with program budgets and financial administration;  building relationships and collaborating with other areas of the university; ensuring that the office’s presence on the NYUAD public website and Student Portal is accurate and updated; administrative support to the Student Engagement and Leadership Manager.


In collaboration with other Student Life staff, the Coordinator will assist in building relationships with external partners both in Abu Dhabi and the other Emirates, including other universities. These partnerships will help support programs such as Kashtah and Marhaba as well as increasing external participation in student conferences and SIG-led programming. The Coordinator with deliver orientations/trainings for SIGs and students focusing on how to engage with external partners in a UAE context.


The Coordinator may be asked to contribute to division-wide initiatives including such initiatives and events as: participation in the Ramadan programming working group, the leadership training initiative, the CL Leadership Awards and Quarterly Staff Meetings.


Duties may include clerical and project-based work of a confidential nature.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Advise students and SIGs on event planning and implementation and provide administrative oversight to events as needed.
  • Creating timelines and workflow processes, creating & managing budgets, booking space, managing catering orders & transportation requests, promoting their events, managing setup and breakdown of events.
  • Collaborating with Student Government on SIG onboarding and offboarding.
  • Ensure proper use of Engage for planning and assessing programs.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders relevant to SIG programing
  • Coordinate day to day management of administrative systems related to Student Engagement and Leadership.
  • The Coordinator will be responsible for the day to day operation of Student Activities platform Engage.
  • Coordinate annual registration process for SIGs. Maintain records of all forms and risk assessments relating to Sports SIGs.
  • Contribute to web content, publications and information materials as required.
  • Liaise with University staff and other relevant external parties to share/seek information in relation to student activities
  • Responsible for Student Activities finance systems.
  • The coordinator will process payments, invoices, and reimbursements.
  • Primary day-to-day operational liaison between the Student Activities team and the Finance team.
  • Responsible for advising student on budget planning and financial literacy workshops
  • Contribute to the Student Engagement and Leadership strategic and operational planning.
  • The coordinator will contribute to the planning and delivery of training for SIG leaders and the Leadership program.
  • Prepare reports detailing projects, initiatives, administrative and operational matters
  • Analyze issues, data, research and produce reports as required
  • Create and manage the results of feedback surveys from programs
  • Planning the tasks and events relating to the administration of student activities and leadership, and to specific projects within the office


Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience


Required Experience:

  • Experience working within higher education and student affairs
  • Experience with student development and/or student programming at the university level
  • Experience working with a diverse student population
  • Experience in advising students and student groups
  • Experience and proficiency in the planning, coordination and implementation of projects and programs
  • Good judgment, discretion, independence and initiative
  • A capacity to work collegially and collaboratively in a startup setting
  • An ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines, organized work habits, consistent accuracy, and attentiveness to detail
  • Commitment to advising and working with students and student groups
  • Ability and willingness to work some evening/weekend hours
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong technology skills and an interest in learning new programs (i.e. Engage)
  • Experience with social media and design programs (i.e. Photoshop)


Preferred Experience:  

  • Given that much of the office’s programming will take place outside of regular work hours, the Coordinator must be willing to work in the evenings and on weekends when needed. There may be peak times of the academic year when the time commitment may be greater than others
