New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Director of Faculty Advancement and Engagement reporting to the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement and Engagement.

 

The Assistant Director of Faculty Advancement and Engagement will serve the NYUAD mission to develop  the faculty to make achievements as scholars, educators and contributing members of the academic and global community.  The Assistant Director will work in the office of the Vice Provost of Faculty Advancement and Engagement to promote a culture of lifelong learning for faculty, design and implement initiatives that advance faculty careers at NYUAD and those that recognize the outstanding achievements made by NYUAD faculty.   

The Assistant Director will work as a team member and project lead in collaboration with stakeholders at all job levels. They will be responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing a range of programs that support the professional development of faculty and academic leaders, as well as contributing to the implementation of institution-wide initiatives and administrative policies related to faculty. This position is also responsible for the day-to-day management of administrative functions to assist in the development, delivery and assessment of a wide variety of programs, communication, outreach, reporting and project management. 

The role will serve an office that provides a key source of faculty support and thus they must be adept at interacting with faculty across different fields of study/disciplines and knowledgeable about the challenges that they face, in particular with regard to the faculty lifecycle and tenure/promotion for all faculty ranks and appointment types. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and experience interacting productively with a diverse group of faculty, staff and members of the university leadership to ensure the achievement of individual, functional and organizational goals is required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, administer, facilitate and assess programs that support NYUAD faculty of all appointment types (e.g., continuing contract and tenured/tenure track), in their advancement across career stages, including mentoring, promotion, tenure, reappointment and leadership development with a focus on continuous improvement;
  • Work in partnership with university leadership and campus partners such as the center for teaching and learning, office of inclusion and equity, research, governance, Academic Appointments and others, to enhance professional development and engagement for faculty;
  • Develop and administer a robust communications strategy to enhance faculty engagement
  • Develop and administer programs focused on faculty inclusion, wellbeing and engagement, including a robust faculty orientation program in collaboration with the office of Academic Appointments and other stakeholders across the NYU Global Network;
  • Contribute to the development and administration of initiatives to recognize faculty achievements, including awards;
  • Develop best practices and action plans for faculty mentoring and for faculty leadership initiatives;
  • Carry out research, data analysis and impact assessment for programing that support faculty;
  • Manage and administer events and programs related to faculty advancement and engagement
  • Ensure program offerings are compliant with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master’s degree or higher level of education in Higher Education and Organizational Psychology or Human Development, Psychology, or a related field

Required Experience: 

  • 5 years of experience in curriculum development, program management and administrative support in Higher Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent understanding of the processes, constraints and framework related to faculty career development, advancement and engagement 
  • Proven track record of working effectively within a complex organizational structure, such as with university faculty in a diverse and inclusive campus environment; 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of existing research and literature in the areas of faculty leadership, mentoring, recognition, workload assessment and advancement.
  • Must be able to foster constructive and action-oriented dialogue with stakeholders across the NYU Global Network to build trust, establish effective communication strategies, and work in collaboration with others. This requires a high level of professionalism to enable diplomatic engagement with constituents across campus.
  • Dedication and skill to build and maintain effective working relationships in a highly diverse and inclusive environment, with intercultural fluency
  • A high level of dedicated, mission driven and proactive work style that incorporates initiative, flexibility, independence and positive outlook;
  • Sophisticated judgment, decision making, reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential. This involves the ability to work with data and quantitative analytical skills. 
  • Outstanding communication skills (oral, written and presentation) 
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work at multiple levels of project execution and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to develop, implement and manage efficient and effective administrative support, services, data analysis, reporting and budgeting

Preferred Experience:  

  • Experience with learning and development in a higher education setting, experience as a faculty member.
  • Demonstrated high level of attention to detail, multitasking, prioritizing to align with mission 
  • Strong project management skills, experience identifying and proactively solving new problems, and strong commitment to continuous process improvement
